BERTASSONI LAB

Collaborative Life Sciences Building (CLSB)

We are located in the new OHSU South Waterfront campus. The CLSB building is a 650,000 square feet state-of-the-art collaborative research facility that brings together academics with Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical and Engineering backgrounds, from OHSU, Portland State University and Oregon State University. The $295 million building is the first on this scale to combine the resources of multiple universities to offer the best possible science education and research opportunities for students.

Bertassoni Lab at OHSU

The Bertassoni Lab is part of the Division of Biomaterials and Biomechanics in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. Our lab is has an extensive list of resources for materials and biological characterization, as well as many biofabrication tools. Our mechanical characterization  systems include 2 universal testing machines, a nanoindenter, a hardness tester, a rheometer and a nanoDMA. Our lab is also equipped with an in-house SEM, FTIR, UV-VIS, profilometers, besides all specimen preparation tools. Our biofabrication devices include two 3D bioprinters,  all the apparatus for BioMEMS and hydrogel microfabrication,  microfluidics and polymer synthesis. The lab also has a fully equipped cell/tissue culture room with a fully automated fluorescent microscope.  In addition, Dr Bertassoni is part of the OHSU's Center for Regenerative Medicine, a world-class tissue engineering facility, the CLSB light microscopy core and the Multiscale Microscopy Core.  Dr Bertassoni still holds a honorary appointment at University of Sydney where he supervises students in the bioengineering laboratory.
